As the proud Chief Executive of AP Cymru – The Neurodiversity Charity, I welcome the announcement from Welsh Government of £13.7 million pounds to improve services and reduce ADHD and autism assessment waiting times.

My staff team and I work closely with families every day; many of whom face huge struggles in accessing timely assessments, diagnoses and support. We see firsthand how the delays in the system can cause upset and uncertainty for children, young people and their families. These delays can impact mental health, education and wellbeing.

This funding assessment is a huge step in the right direction and it acknowledges the urgent need for improved pathways and greater support for everyone awaiting a diagnosis. Early interventions are critical because the sooner young people receive the correct diagnosis and support, the better their long term outcomes are in education, employment and wellbeing.

I am pleased to see a commitment to streamlining services, which I hope will make them more accessible and efficient. This large investment has the potential to make a huge difference to neurodivergent people and their families across the country.

At AP Cymru, we will continue to work hard to support neurodivergent people and their families.
