Welcome to the second edition of the AP Cymru Newsletter!
We would like to thank you all so much for supporting our online shop which opened last week - orders have been coming in thick and fast! We have restocked, so please take a look and support us if you can – www.apcymru.org.uk/shop.
A volunteer has written this poem which we wanted to share with you.
Play with Purpose: A Poem for AP Cymru Members
In every giggle, game, and spark,
Play lights up a vital arc
A path where neurodivergent minds
Can thrive in ways the heart defines.
At AP Cymru, play’s embraced,
In safe, exclusive, inclusive, joyful space.
Where difference isn’t just allowed
It’s celebrated, strong and proud.
Through sensory fun and quiet zones,
Support is felt in heartfelt tones.
Workshops, guidance, peer-led care
Play becomes a bond we share.
It teaches skills, builds self-esteem,
And nurtures every child’s dream.
With tailored tools and gentle pace,
Each child finds their rightful place.
So let them build, explore, and grow,
In ways that only they best know.
For in each moment, laugh, and say
Their brilliance shines through purposeful play.
I hope you have a great weekend.
With warmest wishes,
Karen
The Power of Play: Supporting Neurodivergent Children and Young People (& adults too!)
Play is essential at all ages and stages of childhood and never more so than during times of crisis, uncertainty, transition and change. For neurodivergent children and young people, play offers a safe and empowering way to make sense of the world around them, navigate challenges, build emotional connections and resilience.
At AP Cymru, we recognise play as a vital part of wellbeing. It’s not just fun it’s a lifeline. Through play, children can form friendships, release energy, and manage stress and anxiety in ways that feel natural and affirming. Whether through sensory activities, imaginative exploration, or structured games, play supports development of creativity, communication, and a sense of adventure.
Play is a right, not a reward. It’s central to health, happiness, and holistic development and at AP Cymru, we champion environments where neurodivergent children can play freely, safely, and joyfully.
Do you have a favourite place your child/children likes to play? Share your story with us and your experience may help other families.

How my OCD diagnosis changed everything!
Our Chief Executive Karen has started writing a blog, and the first one is now published on our website. Karen will be writing regularly for us, and you can access the blogs via our menu bar entitled, 'Karen's Blog' or click here: www.apcymru.org.uk/unmasked-unapologetic
Autism Globe and AP Cymru - The Neurodiversity Charity
We were delighted to join Autism Globe and hold a Parent Support Group recently. We headed to Asda in Cardiff Bay for a Coffee Morning for parents and carers of children with additional learning needs (ALN).
The session was really busy, with the parents and carers sharing their experiences looking after children with ALN.
Please keep an eye on our social media feeds, website and newsletter for updates of forthcoming events.
Occupational Therapy Parent Clinic
Our Occupational Therapy Clinics are so well attended and are designed to better help you understand the Occupational Therapy role, and what the assessment and action process might look like. If you are interested in joining our ever growing AP Family, please visit www.apcymru.org.uk/familywellbeing.
Creative Young People Project
We have received excellent feedback from our young people who took part in our first 'Creative Young People' project at Stwdio 37. The young people created exceptional designs, and could take them home to enjoy with their family and friends.
Our second project here is already fully booked, but we have a reserve list if you would like to be popped on it. Please get in touch.
